The Asphalt Institute, Lexington, Kentucky, USA The Asphalt Institute (AI) is a US based association of international petroleum asphalt producers, manufacturers, and affiliated businesses. In 2000 the extracted bitumen from natural asphalt of Buton has been certified by AI to be complied with American SUPERPAVE (Superior Performing Asphalt Pavement) Standard for Asphalt Pavement. This certification becomes important as it can be used to penetrate American market to compete with other available Superpave Standard products. In order to get certification, Inventor of the Asbuton Extraction Process had to be assigned first by AI, established in 1915 by the American refinery companies, as a member of Technical Advisory Committee for period 2000/2001 representing natural asphalt.
