Asphalt of Buton

Asphalt of Buton (Asbuton) is the name given to the refined form of the naturally-occurring deposit of asphalt found in the island of Buton. Asbuton is used as a modifier to enhance the properties of a bitumen-only pavement and is mixed in controlled proportions with refinery bitumen to produce a mix that can yield as much as three times the service life that a bitumen only pavement is expected to give. Asbuton material conforms a number of standards including to American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standards, British Standards and Deutche Industrie Nörmen (DIN) Specifications.
